The Women's Rights Movement during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries brought many changes to how women were perceived. Starting with the Seneca Falls Convention as a major turning point for the movement and then being led by Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton and all of the changes they were able to bring. Their efforts at the Seneca Falls Convention and in writing the Declaration of Sentiments changed how women viewed themselves. As a result of this they protested in many ways for equality. Before the Seneca Falls Convention not only were women not allowed to vote but they could not speak in public, own property in their own name or even have custody of their children after a divorce. However after the Seneca Falls Convention everything changed for women. While being criticized at first the Seneca Falls Convention played a vital role in the women's rights movement. From the convention the National Women's Association, National Women's Loyal League, and many other organizations fighting for the rights of women were born. These organizations toured the country spreading the ideas of women's rights and gaining supporters as they went. Eventually women began to gain their basic rights. These accomplishments in women's rights are from the Seneca Falls Convention by showing women what is possible and then the women took the ideas and fought for them.
The Seneca Falls Convention and Declaration of Sentiments are still relevant today. As the foundation for the women's rights movement they led to women gaining the equality that they have today. Today women are CEO's of important companies, presidential candidates and have many more successful careers. The strides women have made to this day are all because of the Seneca Falls Convention and Declaration of Sentiments.
